1. Does the re-activation process apply to me?

The re-activation process will apply to you if you have withdrawn / suspended studies for no more than one academic session and wish to return to the same programme of study regardless of whether you have:

  • withdrawn following the completion of a withdrawal form
  • been withdrawn by your Programme Tutor, Director of Academic Programmes or Head of School for academic/attendance reasons
  • been withdrawn by Registry on instruction from Finance for failure to pay fees, or make arrangements to pay fees
  • been withdrawn by a Programme Assessment Board (i.e. you have been recorded as "fail and withdraw")

The reactivation process will not apply to you if you have:

  • been withdrawn for more than one academic session, or
  • wish to return to a different programme of study
  • wish to return to the same programme of study as previously but were withdrawn by a Programme Assessment Board within the last 4 months.

In these cases you must complete the normal admission process.

2. Should I complete this form?

Yes, if you wish to apply for re-activation following withdrawal from your programme - or a period of suspension of studies for no more than one academic session - and you wish to return to the same programme. This form applies regardless of whether you have withdrawn/suspended voluntarily or have been withdrawn/suspended by your school or the University.

You will not be permitted to attend or participate in a module or any programme of study without having first:

  • received in writing an offer to return to study
  • registered on the modules or programmes

It is your responsibility to ensure your application is submitted in good time to permit processing of the application, including communication in writing of the decision on your application and the setting up of your record before the deadline for registration has passed.

3. What do I do if I want to return to study on a different programme?

If you wish to be re-admitted to a programme other than the one on which you were previously registered, you must reapply to the University through the normal admission process.

4. When should I apply for re-activation to a programme in semester 1?

If you are seeking re-activation to a programme of study in semester 1 you must submit the completed form, accompanied by appropriate documentation/supporting evidence, by no later than 15 July. Applications for re-activation submitted after this date will be considered only where the application and registration process can reasonably be completed by the end of the first teaching week of the semester.

The University will decide whether or not this is the case and submission of an application after the deadline does not guarantee consideration of that application.

5. When should I apply for re-activation to a programme in semester 2?

If you are seeking re-activation to a programme of study in semester 2 you must submit the completed form, accompanied by appropriate documentation/supporting evidence, by no later than 1 December. Applications for re-activation submitted after this date will be considered only where the application and registration process can reasonably be completed by the end of the first teaching week of the semester.

The University will decide whether or not this is the case and submission of an application after the deadline does not guarantee consideration of that application.

6. What sort of documentation/supporting evidence should I submit with my application for re-admission?

In considering your application for re-admission, the Director of Academic Programmes will decide whether or not you can reasonably be expected to complete the stage of the programme to which you are seeking re-admission.

You must give thought to the reason for withdrawal (you will find this information on the withdrawal letter issued to you by Registry) and the evidence you can provide to demonstrate that this is the case. For example:

  • if you were withdrawn by the University for failure to pay or make arrangements to pay fees, you should include with your application evidence that you have made payment of your fees in full (or in part and with a payment plan agreed with Finance)
  • if you suspended your studies on health grounds, a medical letter demonstrating that your condition is being treated/has been treated such that it is reasonable to expect that you will be able to complete the stage of the programme to which you are seeking re-admission

An application submitted without supporting documentation may not be successful.

7. What should I do with my completed form?

Your application for re-activation must be submitted to the appropriate School Office. A member of the academic staff will then make a decision on your application and the School office will write to you confirming that decision. If you have not received a decision on the outcome of your application within three weeks, please contact your School office.
