Voluntary work
Volunteering is an
enjoyable way to help yourself as well as other people. There
is an amazing range of voluntary work that you can do, such as
staffing a phone line, befriending a child or lending a hand on
a community newspaper.
What is in it for me?
- You will get a chance to explore all kinds of real life situations
and see what inspires you.
- It is a chance to develop real skills, like learning how
to work in a team with others, communicate effectively and so
on.
- You will be able to impress employers by giving them examples
of where you actually developed these skills.
- You will have fun!
- If you are considering a career in the welfare sector, i.e.
social work or community work, then you may find that doing voluntary
work is a requirement.

How do I go
about volunteering?
A good starting point is to
make an appointment with your
careers adviser to discuss what kind of voluntary work would
fit into your career plan, or drop
into the Volunteer Centre Dundee. The centre is based at Number
10, Constitution Rd, Dundee DD1 1LL. You can call them on 01382 305705 or
