Employer Engagement

Engage with us

We offer a user-friendly career service in higher education, connecting employers like you with talented students and graduates from Abertay.

Nearly all of our undergraduate degrees feature work placements, internships or some kind of industry experience. Our students are actively encouraged to gain work experience - like work placements or internships - to help improve their employability after graduation.

They are highly motivated and enthusiastic, eager to develop their workplace skills and enhance their commercial awareness. They come from a wide range of backgrounds, offering you many different skills and experiences. If you'd like to offer an opportunity to a student, or talk about the other types of work-related activities listed here, please get in touch.

Email careers@abertay.ac.uk and follow us on the LinkedIn Abertay Careers Service page.

Work Placements

Work placements are a 'win-win' situation for both you and the student.  Many employers find our students so useful that they offer them full-time employment after graduation or a part-time/summer job.

Your organisation contributes to the community by giving something back from a social and economic perspective. And you'll get a complete piece of work or a project. You also gain first-hand knowledge of their skills and abilities.

You don't need to pay them. All we ask for is a short report at the end of the placement. Placements vary from one day a week to short-term full-time work for weeks or months.

If you have a project or opportunity you would like to offer, please contact us and we will put you in touch with our specialist work placement advisors.

The experience was very positive for both sides and the student was conscientious, methodical, and developed new ideas as progress was made. A real credit to Abertay.  2024 Work Placement Employer

Career mentoring scheme

I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and would recommend it to anyone who is thinking about mentoring. 2024 Mentor

Each year we run a careers mentoring programme. It is designed to help students improve their personal and professional skills, and prepare them for the world of work.

Participants are matched to mentors based on their course and career interests. The programme runs for six months, from November to May.

If you would like to get involved as a mentor or just find out more, please contact careermentoring@abertay.ac.uk.

My overall experience of the mentoring scheme was fantastic. I couldn't recommend it more. 2024 Student Mentee

Internships

Internships offer a period of work experience, usually offered for a fixed timescale.

They are usually completed over the summer break - typically between the third-fourth year - or after graduation. An intern is generally paid.

If you have an internship opportunity, or would like to find out more about different projects our students can be involved in, please contact us by email careers@abertay.ac.uk.

Graduate job schemes

Ready to train and hire highly-skilled and eager graduates?

Abertay graduates are work-ready and want to join ambitious companies looking for new talent. They thrive in fast-paced environments, will raise your company's profile, and become a valued part of your work force.

To advertise your Graduate Scheme with us, please register/log in to Abertay Connect or email careers@abertay.ac.uk.

The Volunteer Showcase

The Volunteer Showcase takes place every September and March.

It provides students with an opportunity to meet face to face with organisations that actively recruit or are recruiting volunteers.

Please contact us to take part, and promote your volunteering opportunities to our students.

Career workshops and events

Join our Careers Fairs and and connect with our students.

You can discuss internships/graduate positions and discover new talent at the same time. It's a great way to raise your organisation's profile within the student community.

There are many ways to get involved. For instance, charitable organisations usually promote volunteering opportunities. Your input in lectures, talks, and workshops is a valuable way to introduce  students to your organisation and the world of work.

Contact us at careers@abertay.ac.uk to find out more.
