The Grad Labs is a bespoke programme of career support exclusively tailored for Abertay graduates. It's crafted to provide you with the necessary tools and skills to thrive beyond university.

The Grad Labs programme will unfold over three days—Tuesday 28 May, Wednesday 29 May, and Thursday 30 May—and features a variety of career-enhancing activities. Most sessions are online with a few also available in person at Abertay University (see details on the form):

  • Welcome to the Careers Service: We set the scene for The Grad Labs and give you an insight into how Graduate Success continues to support graduates like you.

  • Broadening Horizons - Maria Ramirez, Abertay Careers Advisor:  Your career path can take a variety of different directions. In this session, Maria emphasises the value of being open to a range of options and circumstances.

  • Abertay Careers Service - A discovery of self-help tools: From interview preparation to job vacancy access, we talk you through the resources Abertay careers website has that will help you navigate the competitive job market. 

  • How to prepare for the Scottish National Graduate Careers Fair: We'll cover the importance of researching companies at the fair, how to make a positive impression and much more.

  • Postgraduate study: Insight into the option of postgraduate study and hear from an Abertay graduate currently studying a postgraduate course.

  • A freelancer, a contractor, and a business startup walk into a bar…: Simon Fraser, Enterprise Officer at Abertay will look at the different ways in which people can start their own businesses and what it means.

  • Graduate First Resource: Showcasing the range and types of psychometric, aptitude and competency-based tests that graduate employers use in their graduate selection processes.

  • Civil Service Fast Stream: Explore different opportunities that are to open up with Civil Service in December.

  • Fraser Hirst Enterprise: In this session, Fraser helps identify transferable skills to set you up for success in your job search.

  • NCR Recruitment (online and on campus options): Learn more about NCR and the various career paths available.

  • Positioning / Big Picture Workshop (online and on campus options): Sessions for individuals with disabilities - how to request reasonable adjustments from employers without fear of repercussions.

  • Disability isn't a dirty word (online and on campus options): Interactive workshop for individuals with disabilities, encouraging anyone to share their own experiences. 

  • Jamie Bankhead - Konglomerate Games (online and on campus options): This talk will be based around the tips and tricks for how to make a good portfolio and getting a job in the game industry based on experience both looking at portfolios / applications as well as hearing from successful hires at other companies

These sessions are designed to enhance your employability, refine your professional skills, and ensure you’re equipped to navigate the complexities of the job market after graduation.
