Research Students - Applications

Entry requirements

The minimum entry requirement is an Upper Second Class Honours degree (or equivalent) at undergraduate level in an appropriate discipline but in most cases, especially for overseas applicants, a Master’s degree is preferred.  In some cases appropriate professional or experiential learning may be considered in combination with a lower classification of Honours degree.

English Language Requirements

Where applicants are non-native speakers of English, the University requires IELTS of 6.5 (with no subject less than 6.5) for all research degrees (MbR, MPhil, PhD).  Another UKBA acceptable English language qualification at the same level may be accepted.

Entry dates and deadlines

Abertay offers a choice of two entry dates for research study; September and January of each year.  Unless otherwise stated, deadlines for submitting a full application are:
1 July (1 June if you will require a Tier 4 Visa) for September entry; and
1 November
(1 October if you will require a Tier 4 Visa) for January entry.
