The aim of my project is to create a portfolio of Game Asset Animation, with an emphasis on NPC designs, animation and interaction. I will begin by developing an imagined 2D videogame to act as a base for the development of the characters' designs, personalities and interactions with the player and environment. The goal of this project is to research what makes an effective NPC - an NPC which makes the player feel excited to interact and engage with. I will do this by analysing examples of both good and bad NPC design, interaction and integration with the player and the game world. By injecting the NPCs with humour and personality, I will try to make the NPCs more memorable and overall, more appealing to the player and more effective as a part of the game world. My main goal for this project is to further develop my animation and design skills, while creating a collection of industry-standard animations that would be an excellent addition to my personal portfolio.
'NPC Animation: Connection through Character Animation' is a 2023 Digital Graduate Show project by Adam Gunning, a Computer Arts student at Abertay University.
I began to explore NPC animation in my own time, then when deciding on a topic for my Honours Project, I believed this would make an interesting and enriching choice. It would also allow me to develop my design skills, whilst creating industry-standard animations for my portfolio.
