This project is an investigation of how the techniques used in creating narrative through visual clues left in the environment can be used to heighten tension in a horror game. Horror games at their core are supposed to create tension, leaving the person playing on edge for any danger that could be lurking in the dark. However, some horror games lose this tension when the player is forced into a cutscene to learn the story or the game pauses as they read a lengthy document of text that gives them a sense of safety and security, breaking the tension of the game. By having clues left in the environment for the player to find, the tension is heightened as there is no pauses or breaks, plus having the clues left in the environment with little to no context, the person playing will have to piece the story together themselves.
