In the early days of the war, the United States Air Force was transformed into an aerial delivery service for survivors throughout the country. During a routine trip over Louisiana, an unknown malfunction causes the gunship to tear apart and plummet into the zombie-infested swamps of the Atchafalaya Basin.
Alone and equipped with only a pistol and a knife, Colonel Christina Eliopolis must traverse the zombie-infested swamps with the help of a mysterious radio operator. Experience the story through her eyes in this first-person adaptation from one of the many survivor stories from Max Brooks’ 2006 survival horror epic, World War Z.
I've always had an interest with adaptation, especially within a transmedia format. As a fan of the novel, World War Z, I thought it would be an interesting project to try and adapt each of the survivor stories into a game project. With this in mind, I decided to start with the Louisiana-based chapter and use my dissertation as an excuse to start the project.
“Nightmare in the Marshlands: An adaptation from World War Z” is a 2020 Digital Graduate Show project by Craig Brown, a Game Design and Production student at Abertay University.
