I used my honours project as an opportunity to explore the potential of microbudget animated feature films in a way that is artistically satisfying. CGI feature animation pushes the boundaries of what is possible with digital imagery, but little exploration has gone into the methods that we could use to tell stories economically. I believe that researching methods to make animation production more affordable is the first step to creating an industry in which a profit motive is not the only reason for making a film and ultimately, a way to give more control back to filmmakers.
'Circuit Breaker ' is a 2023 Digital Graduate Show project by Samuel Pearson, a Computer Arts student at Abertay University.
I basically just wanted to see what I could do with all of the different skills that I'd learned during my time here. My course teaches you a little bit of a lot of different things and I'm not graduating as an expert in any of them but I have more of a knowledge about what it takes to complete a project, the kind of pipelines that are involved and how different specialists need to work together than I would have from anywhere else. Like I mentioned I don't think that I'm operating at a professional level in my chosen discipline but being at Abertay has given me all of the tools I need to get there.
