What inspired you to pursue a career in your field, and how have your experiences shaped your journey?

My inspiration to pursue a career in project management stems from the 2012 London Olympics. That occasion brought transformation and change to East London. At the time, I worked in the finance industry but the success of the event inspired me to undertake a Masters in project management, which laid the foundation to my current role as a Project Manager here at Abertay.

Are there any mentors or role models who have had an impact on your career, and what lessons have you learned from them?

Nelson Mandela is one of my role models, because of his leadership style, his vision, perseverance, and resilience. He was known around the world for his ability to inspire and motivate others. His inclusiveness and unyielding devotion to diversity and courage made him stand out amongst others. Nelson Mandela’s influence and legacy is not only recognised in Africa, but globally as advocate for peace, resistance to racial oppression.

Can you share any advice or words of encouragement for students from underrepresented backgrounds?

To students or aspiring professionals from underrepresented backgrounds: once you have chosen your desired career path, work hard towards it and I'd strongly recommend joining relevant professional body – where you will find like-minded professionals who will help and support you in your career journey. Never give up on your dreams!

What do you hope the future holds for Abertay in terms of equality, diversity and inclusion?

I remain optimistic that Abertay will continue to drive forward progress on EDI. To be awarded the Advance HE's Race Equality Charter twice speaks volume about Abertay's commitment to EDI. There's still more work to be done of course, which requires action at all levels of the Universiy, but I know that we as a community are determined to make progress. We must not stop here or relent effort to continue, we must work hard to create an environment that welcomes and have a place for everyone.

Are there any specific projects or research interests you're currently pursuing that you'd like to highlight?

I am always seeking opportunities to harness my leadership and project management skills. So, I am currently unertaking an MBA course here at the University which I believe will enable me to rewire my thinking, transform my mindset and help me make change happen for my organisation.
