CoSTAR: convergent screen technologies and performance in real time

CoSTAR

CoSTAR is a £75.6 million national R&D network of laboratories that are developing new technology to maintain the UK’s world-leading position in gaming, TV, film, performance, and digital entertainment sectors.

Delivered by the UKRI Arts and Humanities Research Council, the programme is supporting new innovations and experiences that will enrich UK’s creative industries, economy, and culture.

The network comprises the National Lab, the Realtime Lab, the Live Lab, the Screen Lab and the Foresight Lab.

CoSTAR is funded through UK Research and Innovation’s Infrastructure Fund, which supports the facilities, equipment and resources that are essential for researchers, businesses, and innovators to do groundbreaking work.

CoSTAR: Realtime Lab

CoSTAR Realtime Lab uses creative technology to build fresh products, novel services and new companies designed to spark growth and innovation in the video games, animation, film and TV industries.

Bringing together world-leading academic expertise with industry experience in Scotland’s globally significant gaming sector, the Lab will advance the screen media and performance sector in the UK and beyond.

Led by Abertay University, the Realtime Lab has two sites in Dundee and one in Edinburgh and is a partnership with the University of Edinburgh, Interface, Chroma Developments, and the Scottish Government’s Techscaler programme.
