How to pay your tuition fees

Paying a deposit

You’re required to pay a deposit equal to 50% of your net tuition fee before you can apply for your Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) – a mandatory document for your Student Visa application. The net tuition fee is calculated after deducting any University scholarships from the gross fee.

Following registration on your programme of study, the remaining balance of your net tuition fee will be payable in three equal instalments:

Students starting in September

  • A 50% deposit is due, with three equal instalments to be paid on 1 November, 1 January and 1 March.

Students starting in January

  • A 50% deposit is due, with three equal instalments to be paid on 1 March, 1 May and 1 July.

For example, if you’re enrolled on a postgraduate course with a gross tuition fee of £18,000 and you receive an International Scholarship of £3,000, your net tuition fee becomes £15,000. Consequently, your deposit will be 50% of £15,000—that is, £7,500. The remaining balance will then be divided into three equal payments of £2,500 each.

Please note: In certain circumstances, if risk factors are identified in relation to visa applications, a student may be required to pay either the full first-year tuition fee or a higher deposit prior to the issuance of the CAS. Should this occur, you’ll be advised accordingly.

You pay your fees here using the International payment page on the Abertay intranet.

Scholarships

We have a wide range of scholarships specifically for international students. Find out more on the scholarship page and don't forget to use the filters on the right hand side if you are 'undergraduate' or 'postgraduate'.

Exchange student fees

If you are studying at Abertay as part of an exchange programme, you will continue to pay tuition fees (if applicable) as normal to your home university.

You do not pay tuition fees to Abertay.

Also included in your fees

If you are an international student, your fees also include free membership to the Abertay Gym, and to the nearby V&A Museum in Dundee. The V&A Dundee is the first design museum in Scotland and the first Victoria and Albert museum based outside London.
