David Dorward MBE

With a distinguished career spanning over four decades in local government, David Dorward MBE has left an indelible mark on the city of Dundee. As Chief Executive of Dundee City Council from 2009 to 2014, he played a pivotal role in driving the delivery of transformative infrastructure projects, including the new school estate, Dundee House, the Waterfront Development, and the V&A Dundee.

Following his retirement from local government, David remained deeply committed to community service. In 2015, he founded Dundee Bairns, a charity that has made a significant impact by providing over half a million meals to children and families in need. This remarkable achievement has improved the lives of countless individuals living in deprived areas of the city.

As an Associate Director of the Rank Foundation since 2015, David has worked nationwide to empower leaders, foster entrepreneurial spirit, and build strong networks to address societal challenges. The foundation has invested £5 million in around 35 community projects and charities in Dundee since 2015, with David's guidance and support over the past nine years.

In recognition of his tireless efforts, Her Majesty the Queen appointed David as a Deputy Lord-Lieutenant of the City of Dundee in 2018. He was awarded an MBE for services to children and families in 2020, a testament to his enduring commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of others.
