Our Student Support team guarantee you high-quality, professional, free non-judgemental advice and guidance on:

Academic support

Whatever you’re studying, we can help you develop your skills in different aspects of degree-level work. Advice and guidance is available not just from your course tutors, but also from the Learning Development Advisors, Academic Librarians and IT Trainers.

We can help you to:

  • Become an independent learner.

  • Think critically.

  • Write academically.

  • Carry out research.

  • Give academic presentations confidently.

We have Access Routes and Guides to help visitors with additional access requirements plan their journey to and around campus.  

How to contact us

Our support is delivered through a combination of the Support Enquiry Zone (SEZ - see below), Information Services, the Students' Association and the academic schools

SEZ is based in the library and is open every day, including weekends. After 5pm weekdays and at weekends, if your enquiry needs referring to specialist support, we may not be able to pass it on until the next working day.

Report abuse

If something concerning has happened to you or someone you know, you can report it (anonymously if you want) using our online reporting tool called 'Tell Us'. If you make a named complaint, we'll ensure you are supported and protected throughout the investigation. 

What can the Support Enquiry Zone (SEZ) help with?

You can bring any enquiry to SEZ.  We aim to answer most enquiries there and then, but if we don’t know the answer, we will know someone who does! Ask us about:

  1. Your course eg. module and tutorial information, timetables, dates and times of assessments, who to go to in your School for what type of course or study enquiry.

  2. Your student record eg. address and name changes, transcripts, your student card, grades, HEAR etc.

  3. Understanding academic regulations, including how to apply for mitigating circumstances including extensions and deferrals.

  4. IT issues and queries eg. submitting your coursework online, your IT account, getting your personal device connected to wifi.

  5. Borrowing AV equipment and booking study space.

  6. Making payments to the University (tuition fees, accommodation, graduation)

  7. Obtaining letters and forms eg. Council Tax certificates, confirmation of student status letters for banks, landlords etc.

  8. Use of services available in the library building eg. laptop lockers, booking group study rooms, borrowing books listed on your reading lists.

  9. General information eg. private accommodation, local amenities, registering for doctors, dentists etc.

  10. Signposting to specialist services eg. Student Association, Careers, Disability, Counselling, Mental Health, Funding advice and International Student Support.
