Abertay University’s School of Business, Law and Social Sciences has become the first UK business school to launch undergraduate degree programmes in Romania.
Partnering with Bucharest International School of Management (BISM), Abertay will deliver a suite of degree courses in the country starting this year, including BA (Hons) Business Management, BA (Hons) Digital Marketing with Business Management, and BA (Hons) Accounting and Finance with Business Analytics.
Courses will be taught in English and, as is the case at Abertay’s campus in Dundee, students will get the opportunity to work on real-world business projects, alongside their academic studies.
“At Abertay, we pride ourselves on preparing our students for the world of work and offering transformational opportunities to all who can benefit from them" - Deputy Vice-Chancellor Liz Bacon
Professor Liz Bacon (above), Deputy Vice-Chancellor at Abertay University, said: “We are delighted to be entering into this exciting partnership.
“Over the course of our relationship we will be sharing the academic expertise and teaching experience needed to prepare the next generation of business professionals in Bucharest.
“At Abertay, we pride ourselves on preparing our students for the world of work and offering transformational opportunities to all who can benefit from them. This core ethos will carry forward into the new partnership with Bucharest International School of Management as we deliver our high-quality suite of business, marketing and accounting & finance programmes overseas.
“As part of our internationalisation process, we have designed excellent programmes that provide employability skills and knowledge of leading and managing organisations internationally. BISM has the facilities and the resources to help us deliver these programmes to the expected quality standards, providing our students with an excellent learning experience.”
The partnership with Abertay comes as BISM changes name from former title, Maastricht School of Management Romania, with the institution remaining linked to the Maastricht School of Management in the Netherlands.
Our partnership with Abertay University enables us to deliver at UK academic standards of excellence and, given Abertay's top rankings for student satisfaction, we think we couldn't have chosen better - Radu Atanasiu, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at BISM
Students on these courses will study in Bucharest, with access to Abertay systems such as the online library, teaching from both BISM and Abertay academics and the opportunity to attend a graduation ceremony in Dundee.
Radu Atanasiu (above), Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at BISM said: “Our aim is to transform people that, in turn, become change agents and transform the Romanian business environment and the larger society.
“After impacting the lives and organizations of more than 400 managers, we are proud to address a younger target market and to start delivering UK undergraduate programs in Bucharest. Our partnership with Abertay University enables us to deliver at UK academic standards of excellence and, given Abertay's top rankings for student satisfaction, we think we couldn't have chosen better.
“We will start in September 2021 with three programs that will prepare the students in a tailored mix of subjects, with a significant practical component, for a successful business career. Our lecturers, international and Romanian, coming both from academia and business, are eager to meet the new students.”
