Abertay University’s Student Rugby Team has smashed its own fundraising efforts by raising £6,363 for the 2022 Movember Men’s health campaign.
To make sure they hit their £6,000 target, the team took part in a range of challenges, including lifting one million kilos of weights in a local gym within 24-hours.
The team also had a cake and candy stall, as well as growing their facial hair throughout the month of November.
The highest amount previously raised by the Rugby Team for the Movember Foundation was £5,000.
Each year, many of Abertay’s sports teams choose to raise funds for a charity of their choice. In addition to Movember, teams across the University have also raised funds for charities including Dundee Women’s Aid.
Michael Devlin, Sports Development Officer said: “The amount of money raised by our Rugby Team this year with their fundraising efforts is absolutely outstanding.
“It’s been fantastic to see the team put the same amount of energy into their Movember efforts as they do to playing Rugby.
“I’d like to say a huge well done to all of our teams who have raised funds for their chosen charity this year.”
Neil Hepburn Movember Ambassador added: “We are really pleased to be able to donate £6,200 to the Movember Foundation.
“We would like to say thank you to everyone who donated to our fundraising drive, and an extra special thanks to Functional Fitness Dundee, who provided us with space and equipment to complete our 1 million kilo lift challenge
