Students from Abertay Tennis Club are celebrating a smashing success after being shortlisted in the University category of the Tennis Scotland Awards 2024.
The annual awards, which honour the contributions made to tennis and padel tennis across Scotland, celebrate everything from the achievements of professional players through to the priceless contributions of volunteers.
A total of 20 awards will be handed out during a ceremony in Stirling on Friday, 29 March, 2024, hosted by former BBC presenter Rhona McLeod and featuring tennis personalities.
Lewis Smith of Abertay Tennis Club said:
“The club is buzzing to have been nominated in these awards, particularly given our small size compared with other universities. There’s a brilliant community amongst the sports clubs at Abertay and we’re really pleased to be flying the flag for Abertay Sport and the University.”
Mikey Devlin, Sport Development Officer at Abertay University said:
“To have been nominated at national level in these prestigious awards speaks volumes about this club. The students have shown massive dedication, hard work and a commitment to inclusion and the nomination is hugely well deserved. They are fantastic ambassadors for Abertay Sport and the University more widely and I wish them all the best for the award ceremony.”
Abertay Sport offers a wide range of competitive and social sports activities for students, with around a dozen sports clubs and regular gym, exercise and health and wellbeing sessions.
The University’s Division of Sport and Exercise Sciences has one of the widest ranges of sports degrees anywhere in the UK, exploring everything from physiology, psychology and biomechanics, through to policy, sport development, coaching for performance and much more.
