Abertay’s games design programmes have been ranked in the world top 25 by The Rookies Global School Rankings 2024.

The rankings, which includes the best creative education providers across the world, are designed to showcase the best creative educational institutions and how they teach and support student artists, designers, animators, and creative professionals.

Providing a respected guide for prospective students entering the creative arts, The Rookies helps identify schools that consistently produce excellent graduate talent across a wide range of creative disciplines such as game design, digital art, animation, or any other creative fields.

To formulate the rankings, The Rookies engage industry-leading professionals to review student art portfolios based on criteria that encompass creative skills, technical proficiency, presentation quality, diversity of skills, project complexity, raw talent, and employment potential.

Lecturer Finlay Pearston who led on Abertay’s submission to The Rookies said:

Achieving such an excellent result in The Rookies is a significant accomplishment, and it’s especially rewarding that this recognition is based on the outstanding quality of our students' work. Abertay has long been known for its leadership in digital art and design, a reputation built by staying ahead of technological developments, responding to industry demands, offering excellent facilities and ensuring an exceptional student experience. This result highlights both the excellence of our programmes and the top-tier education delivered by our academic staff. I’d like to extend my congratulations to our talented students, who should be incredibly proud of having their work recognised at such a high level.
