Abertay University has announced the return of its award-winning festival celebrating equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) for a third year.

Diversity Fest 2024 will take place from Monday 11 November to Thursday 14 November and features a variety of free events and activities designed to celebrate and promote the rich diversity within the Abertay community.

Building on the success of the previous two editions held in 2021 and 2022, this year’s festival is bigger than ever. It features a diverse lineup of live talks and workshops led by both staff and students, alongside special guest lectures from external speakers.

The festival will kick off with a keynote address by Dr Elizabeth Ferris, an Honorary Fellow of Abertay since 2017 and a passionate advocate for inclusivity in sports. As a former Scotland Wheelchair Rugby League international and the founder of the Dundee Dragons Wheelchair Sports Club, Dr Ferris has committed her life to promoting accessible sports.

In her talk, "Driving Change: The Rise of Inclusive Sports," she will share her journey as a wheelchair user and explore the transformative power of sports in creating equitable opportunities for everyone.

Professor Liz Bacon, Principal of Abertay University, said:

Diversity Fest is one of the standout events in our calendar, and it’s fantastic to see it return with an even bigger line-up than previous years. We’re proud of the record number of staff and student proposals for this year’s events, demonstrating just how important equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) are to the Abertay community. Our commitment to EDI remains strong, and we continue to work hard to foster a welcoming and inclusive environment for all.

Past editions of Diversity Fest have earned the University notable accolades, such as the Diversity in the Public Sector Award at the 2021 Herald Diversity Awards.

That same year, Abertay was ranked as Scotland's leading university for social inclusion by the Sunday Times Good University Guide and was one of only two institutions to receive re-accreditation for AdvanceHE’s Race Equality Charter Award.
