The Abertay Ethical Hacking Society celebrated a significant milestone for the 13th edition of the Securi-Tay conference, attracting a record turnout of over 500 attendees.
This year’s event, held on Friday 28 February 2025, featured a packed schedule of talks, workshops, and networking opportunities aimed at exploring the latest developments and challenges in the field of cybersecurity.
Participants included students, academics, and industry professionals from across the UK and beyond, all coming together to deepen their understanding of cybersecurity issues.
Running across three separate tracks, the conference explored a diverse range of topics, from technical deep dives into malware analysis, AI security, and cyberwarfare to discussions on intimacy and abuse online, business email compromise, and regulatory challenges.
Hands-on learning was also a key focus this year, with a dedicated workshop village hosted serval workshops throughout the day where attended could participate. These workshops ranged from covering container security to provably perfect security solutions.
Tristan Verrier, President of Abertay Ethical Hacking Society, said:
We’re thrilled to have welcomed a record number of attendees to Securi-Tay 2025. Every year, this event continues to grow, proving just how valuable it is to students and professionals alike. It’s incredible to see the cybersecurity community coming together to share knowledge, ideas, and opportunities. A massive thank you to our speakers, sponsors, and the hardworking team of volunteers who made this year’s event such a success.
This year’s keynote speakers included renowned cybersecurity analyst James Kwaan, who explored geopolitical challenges in cybersecurity and finance, and Miłosz Gaczkowski and Mohit Gupta, who shared insights on breaking into the security industry.
Ahead of the main event, the annual Securi-Tay Capture The Flag (CTF) competition ran across two days, allowing participants to put their hacking skills to the test, with prizes awarded to top performers.
The conference was made possible thanks to the support of industry sponsors, with attendees having the chance to network with leading companies in the main exhibition space throughout the day. Securi-Tay 2025 was sponsored by WithSecure Consulting, Llyods Banking Group, Adrama and NCR Atleos. Abertay Students’ Association also supported the event.
Professor Liz Bacon, Principal & Vice-Chancellor of Abertay University, said:
Securi-Tay is a true highlight of the year for Abertay and a fantastic showcase of our students’ expertise and professionalism. The Ethical Hacking Society continues to deliver an outstanding event that not only benefits our students but also strengthens Dundee’s reputation as a centre for cybersecurity excellence. Congratulations to the team for another fantastic year.
