Biography

I am Head of Teaching Quality and Learning Enhancement in the Abertay Learning Enhnacement Academy.  I work across the University and have responsibility for staff development in teaching and learning, provide academic leadership in learning and teaching, implementation of policy and strategy in relation to teaching and learning and leading on external quality assurance and enhancement.

My undergraduate degree is in Psychology as is my PhD which specialised in Forensic Psychology.  I also have masters degrees in research methods and education, including online and distance education. Prior to joining Abertay in 2014, I was Deputy Head of Quality at the University of Bedfordshire. I also work as an Associate Lecturer in Psychology for the Open University.

I have held grants from the British Academy, Leadership Foundation/Higher Education Academy, Newman University and the Quality Assurance Agency Scotland.  I currently hold a SEDA Research and Evaluation Small Grant with Jack Hogan to evaluate the framework we developed for supporting module leaders working on our new suite of microcredentials for undergraduate students.

I am currently module leader for "Action research in educational practice" which forms part of the Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice for new members of academic staff.  I also teach into elements of the psychology programme relating to forensic psychology.

Interests

My research interests are primarily around higher education.  I am part of a cross-sector collaborative project around the experiences of Programme Leaders in universities and have an interest in academic identity, assessment and feedback and staff development.

I am External Examiner for the Advance HE accredited provision at Newman University Birmingham.

I review for a number of pedagogic journals and have been an invited speaker for the Quality Assurance Agency conference.
